Data Analytics Champions (Analyst/Consultant)

Lynxx is a super-fun (even if we do say so ourselves), challenging, creative, flexible and ambitious big data analytics consultancy. We have roots in the public transport & logistics sector but with growing practices in retail/financial services and social sciences. We have recently opened an office in Sydney to support our growth ambitions in the Asia-Pacific region.

We are looking for some new analytics champions to assist in our quest to solve our clients’ problems (and making the world a better place in the process).

You will:

  • Have at least an honours degree in a specialist quantitative field (econometrics, business analytics, actuarial science, mathematics or physics).
  • Eat numbers for breakfast but also be a creative all-rounder.
  • See the potential in people and tasks and can turn that into new work with our clients.
  • Have a great attitude towards getting work done, but will enjoy working in a fun and dynamic environment.
  • Have a talent for languages, especially programming ones (you will probably have experience with Python and have used tools like R and Hadoop).
  • Be able to roll up your sleeves (you will need to make your own coffee and manage your own calendar, but we’re sure you’ll have an app for that).
  • Be the crème de la crème in your field (with an open mind to new methodologies and ways to solve problems) but be able to build a bridge between practice and theory.
  • Be tenacious, persistent and resilient (our copy writer wanted to say ‘attack analytical problems like a dog with a bone’ but we don’t actually attack anything).
  • Be comfortable giving and getting feedback.
  • Thrive in diversity (of people, styles & thinking).

We offer:

  • A unique inspiring environment with career opportunities, in a dynamic, flexible team, with a competitive salary.
  • An environment where learning is mandatory and failing (occasionally) is expected.
  • The chance to shape a start-up and the early development of the Asia Pacific business.
  • Fun and challenging work that will help solve the problems that society is facing today and in the future.
  • All the additional training you’ll need to get up and running in our environment.
  • International work experience options with the very best colleagues (mostly in Europe, but we are growing in Australia too).
  • The chance to learn how to ski on the annual company ski trip (or if you can convince our European colleagues to swap skiing for the beach, you can teach everyone how to surf).
  • Opportunities to undertake further specialist study at the world’s top universities (but we’d welcome your feedback on university ranking algorithms).

We are not a traditional organisation. You won’t find a dress code, an org chart, a book of policies, or a three-stage job interview process. If you need that, then we’re not for you. We want you to thrive, so you have to be yourself at ‘work’. Our only policy is ‘do the right thing.’

The process of adding people to our team will involve some coffee (other beverages are available), some chats, some practical challenges (data, not DIY) and some time for us all to decide whether we can work together.  Occasionally we give each other job titles so we can fill in boxes on tenders, so you’ll probably be called a consultant data scientist.  We are based in a funky (is that what the kids say nowadays?) co-working space in Sydney.

If you can convince us that you have what it takes to join our team, we’ll invite you over for a coffee. Your first challenge is to demonstrate some interesting analytics work that you’ve done (hint: we don’t just want you to email over your C.V.). Good luck!
